Read on to learn more about the disposal of green waste.

Why is Green Waste Disposal Important?

When green waste is disposed in a landfill site, it releases greenhouse gases such as methane back into the environment when it starts to decompose. Properly disposing (or recycling) your green waste means it will not have the opportunity to decompose and release harmful gases into the atmosphere. This:

  • Greatly benefits the environment, especially when you consider the UK Government’s Net Zero emissions target as recommended by the Climate Change Committee.
  • Keeps your garden free of pest and parasite intrusions, as they typically hide in heaps of raw debris
  • Ensures that the pH balance of your soil remains at the correct level for your existing plants.

What is Green Waste?

Green waste or garden waste is any organic waste that is biodegradable and can be composted - and is typically formed of garden refuse.

Examples of green waste include:

  • Grass or flower cuttings
  • Hedge and tree trimmings
  • Dead plants
  • Leaves
  • Branches
