Garden Building at the Chelsea Flower Show
It had been a lifelong dream of The Real Green Gardener’s founder, Steve, to work on a garden for the world renowned Chelsea Flower Show. So, when his teacher Michelle Brown at Kingston Maurward College, a college in Dorset specialising in land-based courses, asked him to get involved in their garden at the Chelsea Flower Show 2019, he jumped at the great privilege and opportunity.
Steve and his business colleague Wayne spent three weeks in London assisting in building the garden. This involved carefully planting a range of beautiful plants to ensure they created the desired visual effect, installing a contemporary, elevated water feature and laying paving stones to create a winding path around the garden.
It also included building a curving, Purbeck stone wall which was partially plastered to create a stunning rustic effect and erecting a decorative, semi-sphere sundial cupola that reflected the rest of the garden’s design.
A Gardener’s Dream
While the experience was stressful and fairly exhausting, as the team worked hard to ensure they built a truly special garden, the knowledge and contacts Steve and Wayne made during their time there were invaluable. Getting their picture taken with industry superstars like Alan Titchmarsh and Adam Frost was also a real perk!
Steve now has ambitions to design and build his own Chelsea Flower Show garden one day and knows that all the experience he and the team has gained over the years will stand them in good stead.
