Green Credentials

As gardeners, green is our thing. Our team is dedicated to using eco-friendly and sustainable practices within our garden design, landscaping and maintenance services.

Our practices are part of our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment as we reduce the use of pesticides and chemicals, which can cause harm to animals and insects and embrace wildflowers and vegetable patches.

At The Real Green Gardener, we are proud to implement several sustainable and eco-friendly techniques and processes into our gardening.

Our Pesticide-Free Promise

We use limited amounts of pesticides in our gardening.

While they can be effective at ridding your garden of pests that munch on your plants, they can harm more than those unwanted guests.

In killing these pests, we are altering the ecosystem in the local area, negatively impacting the environment. These chemicals can also affect the biodiversity of the soil.

Not to mention that there are harmful effects for humans, with pesticides being linked to short-term effects such as headaches and nausea and longer, chronic impacts such as cancer and damage to reproductive systems.

Where possible, our gardeners will use natural alternatives such as organic methods and natural pest control methods. One example is our use of marigold, one of the most common natural pesticides in the UK.

Embrace the Beauty of Wild Flowers

We all know that smaller insects, such as bees, are struggling at the moment.

As an eco-conscious company, we wanted to do something about this, so we are opting to include wild gardens where possible in our designs.

Working with our customers, we will select an area of the garden, maybe a back corner or a raised bed, where wildflowers will be encouraged to grow. These provide a great place for bees to thrive as there will be plenty of pollen and offer a small haven for butterflies and other animals that are losing their homes to overly maintained gardens.

When including a wildflower bed in your garden design and landscaping, we will choose flowers and plants based on its location - that is, will it get plenty of sun, or is it more likely to sit in the shade? If the latter, we will choose to plant a selection of woodland plants, but if in the sun, there will be a variety of colourful flowers.

Wildflowers grow best in low-quality soil, so when maintaining these sections, we will do very little - after all, that is one of the points of having a wild garden. We won't fertilise the soil or add compost, and we will try to avoid pruning or touching the flowers. However, we will make sure that the garden is within its allocated area so you can enjoy a beautifully kept garden too.

Grow Your Own Food

As we grow into a more sustainable society, we have noticed an emphasis on growing our own food.

In doing this, we are reducing our reliance on external sources (such as other countries) to provide us with ingredients and are creating a more sustainable future while reducing our carbon footprint.

In recent years, we have helped a number of our customers create vegetable patches or included greenhouses in their gardens, providing plant packages full of fruit and vegetables to get their homegrown vegetable patch kick-started.

Preparing a vegetable patch can require a fair amount of work, as you need to thoroughly dig up the soil, remove any weeds and thoughtfully design a layout that gives each plant space to grow. Plus, the soil needs to be just right for certain vegetables, which can be tricky.

The team at The Real Green Gardener have the knowledge and expertise to sort all of this out for you as we work with you to design the perfect vegetable patch, landscaping the area and preparing it to grow each plant.

When working with our customers, we want to educate them. So, we make sure to explain why we have laid out the patch in a certain way and its impacts. We hope we will empower them to continue embracing this part of their garden.
